The Florida Sportsman Fishing and Boat Show will be at the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa Sept. 29-30.

The 11th annual show features ongoing seminars with Florida's top fishing captains, hands-on instruction and demonstrations, events for kids, fishing boats and tackle.

Seminar speakers include D.O.A. lures founder Mark Nichols, Blair Wiggins of "Addictive Fishing,'' Dave Justice, Ray Markham and Bill Miller. All are well-known experts.

The "Riggin' it Right Academy'' teaches anglers how to tie on such things as a wired swimming ballyhoo rig.

Admission is $8 for adults. Children 12 and under get in free with a parent. Discount coupons are available in the magazine.

Show hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. the first day and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. the final day.

The Fairgrounds are located at the intersection of U.S. 301 and Interstate 4 east of Tampa.

Women's Seminar

Women who would like to learn more about fishing can hone their skills at the "Ladies, Let's Go Fishing!'' seminar at the Holiday Inn Harborside in Indian Rocks Beach Oct. 12-14.

Fishing techniques for beginning, intermediate or advanced anglers will be taught with hands-on instruction. Boat-handling and trailering are also on the schedule.

The final day is a fishing trip.

The cost for the seminar is $135, which includes meals, T-shirts and goodie bags. The fishing trip is additional.

No CWD in Florida

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has determined that there is no evidence of chronic wasting disease in Florida's deer herd.

The FWC continually checks for the disease, which is prevalent in the West and Midwest.

CWD has yet to be found in the Southeast.

Hunters who find sickly looking deer are asked to call 1-866-293-9282.

Lauderdale Boat Show

The 48th annual Fort Lauderdale Boat Show is Oct. 25-29 at six locations.
