Junior fishing competition a success
A JUNIOR fishing competition organised by local police was
a 'reel' success.
More than 50 young anglers took part in the third annual fishing competition
at Detron Gate organised by the police's Youth Involvement Officer PC Kath
Bromilow at Detron Gate near Bolton-le-Sands.
The event was won by 10-year-old Emily Stockdale from Bolton-le-Sands with
Ashley Proctor, 12, second. There was a tie for third between 10-year-old
Matthew Sibbert, and Darryl Proctor, 14.
Emily and Matthew also took the
under 12s trophies.
PC Kath Bromilow said the day was a great success and thanked David
Lewthwaite for his donation of fishing equipment. Mr Lewthwaite won a
national Respect award earlier in the year and donated the cash prize to the
police to buy fishing equipment for this competition and other similar
schemes.
She said: "David's donation was a magnificent gesture and because of the
equipment we have bought we can run this tournament on a more regular basis."
Kath also thanked the numerous groups who supported the event which included
Booths, the Environment Agency, British Waterways, Lancaster & District
Angling Association, Lune & Wyre Fisheries Association, Stephen J Fawcett
Gunsmiths & Fishing Tackle Shop, Tewitfield Young Anglers, Highfield Road
Tenants & Residents Association and voluntary police cadets who helped with
property marking items such as mobile phones on the day.
